Feeling the Earth Move

5.0 (downgraded from 5.5) earthquake hits Ontario and parts of the US early this afternoon. At first I thought it was a large truck rumbling by but quickly realized that it wasn't.

Lots of confusion in the Toronto and greater Toronto area as we are not used to earth tremblors. No major damage was reported although some buildings in Ottawa (close to the epi-center) did report shattered windows. Some buildings in Toronto and other cities were evacuated until it could be determined there was no structural damage.

An interesting and thankfully benign event to experience.

Glad to hear you're OK! We even felt slight tremors here in Wisconsin - our dog began acting really strange and insisted on going into the basement for a few hours. Animal wisdom.

Angela,

Finley actually reacted as if it was storming out and ran downstairs to hide (and pant, shiver and shake)

Pattee,

Yes, that is Finley my puppy (well he is actually a senior now, but still looks like a puppy) - I was trying to convey the shaking of the earth with the pic, but it just looks like a bad
blurry pic LOL.

That is so strange. I have never heard of an earthquake in your area before. Must have been a terrible scare. Glad all is well though.

Sue....are you there?
WHEW, glad to know you're all in one piece. I too lived in California and felt 'the earth move' often. Utah has them sometimes but I've never felt one. If you can get past the shock and fear at first, it's actually a pretty awesome feeling...
I know, I'm just too odd.
Hang on my friend :)

glad to hear you are ok...that was pretty freaky for Ontario, I've never heard of an earthquake in these parts.

I didn't feel a thing, but 2 different people who work on the 2nd floor of my building came down and said they thought construction was going on, their computers were moving. Are you under the tornado watch for tonight? I can feel a bad storm brewing right now, lol!
got to say I love storms, only wish it was during the day so I could enjoy it

Sue, I'm glad that it wasn't more severe and nobody was hurt. It must have been scary for your sweet dog as well.

Somethings up with the planet! I've lived in California most of my life. Experienced one big quake as a small child and one more about 15 years ago.

This Easter Sunday we were hit with a nearly 7.0 quake. And we've been shaking ever since. We are having quakes every week know.

Maybe California really is going to fall into the ocean.

So odd for the quakes to be hitting so far north and inland. Kind of creepy!

Take CARE!!

Glad you are alright Sue...this California woman has been through many and I never forget to feeling of helplessness...
Seems there are earthquakes in unexpected places all over the world...I fear that none will compare to what may be coming out of the Gulf of Mexico is the well collapses in on itself or that big old methane gas bubble decides to surface....I don't understand why there is no evacuation happening...but then I guess there is nowhere to move 20 million people..hug, hug

Hi Sue,
At the time of the earthquake, I was in a building on the U of T campus that is like a bunker and didn't feel a thing. Was sorry to have missed it as it created lots of excitement among friends and family.
I hope you are having a great weekend.
