A Ghost Story, A Headless Marie, and Vintage Halloween

Have you ever seen a ghost?

When I was around 7 years old, I was staying overnight at my best friend's house. This house was a huge doctor's manse that had been built 100 years prior. It was the type of house with lots of hidden doorways and intriguing little cubbyholes that kids love to play in. Elizabeth's dad was not home that night and her mom said that Elizabeth and I could sleep in her room and she would sleep in E's room. Cool!

I don't remember why, but Elizabeth got up through the night and went to sleep with her mom in her own single bed and I woke up all alone. What woke me up was extreme cold. I was freezing and thought there may be a window open - looked around in the dark, but the windows were all closed. I was so cold I had goosebumps and I remember feeling almost electrified. It was then I noticed the small door to the attic that was in one of the bedroom walls was ajar, just about an inch. As I looked at it, it started to open more. That black one inch band became two, and then three......and that was it for me.

I scooted off that bed and out of that room so fast, ran down the hallway to Elizabeth's room and her mom woke up. I didn't want to tell her that I was scared (I was a BIG girl of 7!), so I suggested that she and Elizabeth move back to her double bed, and I would sleep in E's room. Elizabeth's room was half the size of her parent's room, with no weird cubbyholes or doors to the attic - it was also warm. I eventually fell asleep and the next morning woke up wondering just what had tried to visit me the night before. What do you think? Overactive child's imagination, or a ghost?

Headless Marie Antoinette Costume

Instructions to make this inventive Halloween costume by Nicole Magne is on Etsy's The Storque. It is too late this year, but definitely something to keep in mind for next year.

No instructions for this, but how about being a tree:

An idea for next year's Halloween party (sculpt the head out of paperclay, unless you have a friend that doesn't mind you getting creative with them. mwwwwwhhhahaha)

On that note, I will wish you all a happy and safe Halloween!

Wow Yve...that is such a cool story! I think there are many things in this world that we do not understand. What happened in your case? Hard to say, but I enjoyed reading about it.

Great Story Sue... I believe in spirits on other planes of existence..

When I was growing up in my house, I thought I'd write a book about someday "25 Prospect Dr." It wasn't that old and I don't know if it was built somewhere it shouldn't have been... but

We had an outside patio and deck. On the side of the house there was a door. Like a crawl space. Every time my sister and brother and I were on the patio that door would open and then slam shut, would open then slam shut. Over and over again. When our parents or an adult would be on the patio the door never opened. My sister can verify this... one day we were going out to the patio we both saw this whitish, opaque, filmy young girl maybe 7 dancing around the patio, until she saw us and vanished.

In that house we'd had windows blown out right after we'd closed the door. A dog whimpered in our back yard and we didn't and all the neighbors didn't have dogs...

I was glad to finally graduate from high school and high tail it somewhere else...

wonderful story and love those pics, think that tree is most definitely cabbage leaves LOL
My ghost story is very short but spookedme out !
Walking to work one dark frosty morning with my sister when we were teenagers we would walk up a long road which had a school on one side . The railings ran from one end of the road to the other with a huge playing field behind and no gaps in the railings.
This morning was very chilly we could see our breath in the air. There was a bent little old woman walking down towards us on the school side of the road and she looked right into my eyes . She made me feel very uneasy , her expression was very unfriendly so I whispered to my sister "you wouldnt want to end up looking like her!" . My sister looked round and whispered back "who ?" .....there was nobody there. No where for anyone to have gone and definitely nobody on the street at all.
I always say I saw a ghost that morning ,

oooh, I believe that story, too! I had a vivid imagination (correction...have a vivid imagination) but from what I have been reading lately, seems as though all of the signs were there. Some creepy pictures, and some lovely pictures as well. Love the tree. I was visited by two young guys last night, dressed in white suits, and vaccines in their arms...one was H1 and the other one was N1.....so 'with the times"!

Ooooh, I have the goosebumps now. Hmm, I think my sister has real life ghost stories...and I've sort of seen proof of what could be ghosts. I definitely believe!
